Capture permission
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, then enable Framecap. Quit and reopen Framecap after changing access. If you installed both the website and App Store editions, authorize the edition you are running.
Save or copy an image
Use Command-S to save, or Command-C to copy the image. Choose PNG for lossless text and interface screenshots. Imported PNG and JPEG images can be edited without Screen Recording permission.
Scrolling capture
Select the content region, then start scrolling capture before adding annotations. Scroll down in small increments and keep part of the previous content visible. Watch the side preview. If capture pauses, scroll back slightly to restore overlap. Finish capture before editing the result.
Text recognition
Press O in the editor. Review the recognized text before copying it. OCR runs locally and may need correction, especially with small, low-contrast, or stylized text.
Pin a reference
Press P in the editor to keep the image above other windows. Drag its title bar to move it, adjust opacity with the slider, and close the pinned window when finished.
Website edition automation
CLI and MCP are available in the website edition; they are not included in the Mac App Store edition. Run framecap version --json and framecap doctor --json to inspect a website installation. Never share private screenshots, credentials, or full client configuration in diagnostics.
App Store version
The Mac App Store listing is https://apps.apple.com/app/id6811747702. Framecap requires macOS 14 or later.
